Wall Upholstery

From the ornate tapestries hung in medieval castles, to Elizabethan-era drapes hung completely around a bed, to the grand tents used by Napoleon when in the field, there is a long and beautiful history of using upholstered materials as wall coverings.

What began as a practice of hanging tapestries on stone walls to help combat drafts has evolved into a home decorating trend that delivers a big impact.

Homes today use upholstered walls to create a stunning effect in nearly any room from the bedroom, study, dining room, and more. Upholstered walls can still help insulate a room from drafts, although today they’re primarily used for aesthetic purposes or to help either soften sounds from within or outside of the room.

Upholstery can be used throughout a room, or to enhance a single wall or niche to add a dramatic focal point. They can be enhanced by architectural trim or welting to add even more drama to the installation.

A variety of upholstery fabrics can be used on walls including gorgeous patterns and textures from silk to cotton or linen. Tufting or panels can also be used to bring unexpected dimension to a room.

Professional installation by Steffes Studio will ensure any fabric or wall upholstery treatment you choose will result in a beautiful, dramatic outcome.
